A poetry slam for Jefferson County high school
students (grades 9-12) sponsored by the
Birmingham Public Library
Real Life Poets
Participants write and perform an original work
inspired by the theme "SURVIVE". The participants in WORD UP! will be
the winners from each school's contest. Each school is responsible for
holding its own contest.

Spoken word poets from around the region will perform their
original work to kick off WORD UP! 2015
Huggy Bear da Poet aka Alex Lofton
Huggy Bear will lead a poetry workshop at 2:00 pm in the fourth
floor Arrington Auditorium, directly preceding the Poetry
