WORD UP! 2015
Student Poetry Slam


WHAT:
A poetry slam for Jefferson County high school students (grades 9-12) sponsored by the Birmingham Public Library and Real Life Poets. Participants write and perform an original work inspired by the theme "SURVIVE". The participants in WORD UP! will be the winners from each school's contest. Each school is responsible for holding its own contest.
 
WHEN:
Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.
 
WHERE:
The Birmingham Public Library, Central, Arrington Auditorium, 2100 Park Place
HOW:
Tell your teacher or school librarian that you want to compete in WORD UP! The deadline for schools to sign on to participate is February 17, 2015.  For more information, call 205-226-3670 or email hm@bham.lib.al.us.

Poets Showcase and Workshop

Showcase:
Spoken word poets from around the region will perform their original work to kick off WORD UP! 2015

Featured Poet:
Huggy Bear da Poet aka Alex Lofton

Workshop:
Huggy Bear will lead a poetry workshop at 2:00 pm in the fourth floor Arrington Auditorium, directly preceding the Poetry Showcase.
