Catalog Records Policy
Our mission is to foster, encourage, and enable cooperation among the public
libraries of Jefferson County. We work together to provide the best public
library services, information technology and telecommunications in the world to
the citizens of our county. We believe that our strength comes from our
diversity, our unity of purpose and our dedication to excellent service. By
working with other institutions we further strengthen public library service and
lifelong learning for all citizens of Jefferson County.
The Jefferson County Library Cooperative (JCLC) is an organization of more
than 20 public libraries. One of its most important services is the integrated
public catalog that provides bibliographic and holdings information for the
materials located in each library location.
All of the bibliographic information is produced and maintained by the
Catalog Department of the Birmingham Public Library. Each member library of JCLC
as well as the Cooperative helps to pay for this vital service.
Access to the public catalog is restricted to the viewing of information or
as the gateway to approved databases. Bibliographic records are purchased from
OCLC for the specific use in the JCLC database. Setup information to transfer
these bibliographic records to non-JCLC members is not allowed.
Adopted by the JCLC Board of Directors February 10, 2000.
