Take the Library Along
Birmingham, AL, July 7, 2011---The Jefferson County Library Cooperative (JCLC) has launched a mobile version of its website that will allow users to easily access JCLC’s online catalog on mobile phones and other small-screen mobile devices. This app supports our continuing efforts to make library materials available to a wide range of audiences
JCLC’s new mobile website will enable patrons to quickly access library services and materials, “says Pat Ryan, Executive Director of the Jefferson County Library Cooperative. “This initiative will help ensure that our county’s 360,900 library users have access to a 21st century library system.”
The Pew Research Center reports that 40 percent of adults were using the Internet, email, or instant messaging on a mobile phone in 2010, up from 32 percent in 2009.1 This trend is expected to continue as the public demands greater access to information and resources.
The mobile catalog can be accessed from our regular catalog from any smart phone. The catalog will automatically detect that you are on a smart phone and take you to the mobile version of the catalog (AirPac). On your Internet capable mobile phone, go to our catalog
http://m.vulcan.bham.lib.al.us/. It should automatically take you to the mobile version if you’re using a smart phone. Go to Mobile at the bottom of the website to view the mobile format that will appear on your phone.
