Summer Reading

Now Casting Creative Kids for Summer Reading 2009

by Katie Jane Morris, Hoover Public Library

We don’t want to sound too dramatic, but . . . WE NEED CREATIVE KIDS, AND WE NEED THEM NOW!  The thirty-nine libraries of Jefferson County are looking for kids with talents in any of the following areas: Comics – Crafts - Creative Writing – Dance - Drama – Journaling – Magic – Music – Origami – Painting – Photography – Poetry – Puppetry – Sculpture – Singing!

If this describes you, report to your local library for a summer dedicated to cultivating your talent.  This year’s summer reading theme is Be Creative @ Your Library.  Obviously, an important part of summer reading is . . . READING!  We have tons of picture books and novels to fulfill your need for creative writing.  We have plenty of informational books to satisfy your curiosity about the world.  All we need are readers like you! But, if you think a summer at the library is just about reading, think again.  It’s about dance troupes shaking their groove thing.  It’s about puppeteers breathing life into buttons and old socks.  It’s about painters turning random shapes into works of art.  It’s about making music on a guitar, a piano, or a plain ol’ bucket.  It’s about expressing yourself through poems or Playdoh.  It’s about anything and everything your vivid imagination can dream up. That’s why WE NEED YOU to let your creative juices flow and ride the wave to the library!
