Catch the Reading Bug @ YOUR LIBRARY
Hi!
My name is Velma Gratch, youngest of the three Gratch sisters. I’ve just
returned from my class trip to the Butterfly Can-Serve-the-Story (that’s an
extra-long word I don’t want to forget). Mr. Plexipuss, our science teacher,
corrected me and said I mean the Butterfly Conservatory. Those long
words really can be difficult! Anyway, the visit to the Conservatory
gave me a great idea about how I’d like to spend my summer. I really do want
to learn more about any kind of bug and hope you’ll join me to Catch the
Reading Bug. If you Catch the Reading Bug too, you can learn about
grasshoppers, ladybugs, mosquitoes, bees, ants, you name it! You will find
information in a lot of great books, but also on DVDs, the computers, and
downloadable audio books. All 39 public libraries have lots to offer. And,
boy, you should see the events they’ve planned for summer! There will be
storytimes, beekeeping, a flea circus, magic, balloon sculpture, cooking,
crafts and more. There’s a great site you can visit called Calendar of
Events at www.jclc.org. When you click on the Calendar of Events, you will
see locations, times, dates, and descriptions of exactly what will be
happening each day.
I want all of you to join me at the library for Catch the Reading Bug this summer. The programs are free and you are invited, whatever your age. You’ll be as busy as a bee all summer long.
I have to go now. The monarch butterflies are about to begin their annual my-gray-sun (another one of those extra-long words) and I don’t want to miss it. Oops—I was just corrected again! The spelling is migration. Please join me later at any of the fun programs planned for summer readers.
Hey Velma,
We know that you love bugs and want to learn more about them. Catch the
Reading Bug @Your Library sounds like just the sort of thing you will need
this summer to keep you occupied and out of trouble—and you’ll learn
something too! You will find the kick-off dates for all 39 public libraries
in Jefferson County right here in the READER and, remember, if you want to
know more, visit www.jclc.org and click on Calendar of Events to find out.
Have a way cool summer,
Mary P. Branch, Youth Department
