Reading is always on the top of my to-do list. Seeing all the wonderful books
that come and go through the library whets my appetite even more! You might find
me singing with the Leeds Community Chorus or the LEEDing Ladies, but a book is
always near by waiting to be opened and read. I can recommend the following
books for a good read! |

The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber Four very different women come
together in this novel about friendship and love when Lydia Hoffman opens her
shop called A Good Yarn. Their backgrounds, ages and interests blend together
for a lovely story. The sequel A Good Yarn once again brings women who find
friendship as they learn to knit. |

Forever Odd by Dean Koontz Odd Thomas returns in this sequel to Odd Thomas
grieving the loss of his fiancée. Odd has some very unusual powers, mainly the
ability to see the dead. In this tale, Odd tracks his friend Danny who has been
abducted after his stepfather is brutally murdered. This one is a true suspense
story, typical of Dean Koontz. |

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini This novel presents a glimpse of life in
Afghanistan in the mid-1970s. It traces the friendship of a wealthy Afghan
youth, Amir, and a servant’s son, Hassan. Both boys are motherless and play
together daily. Circumstances cause their friendship to end and then Amir and
his father are forced to flee Kabul when the Russians invade Afghanistan. The
story moves back and forth between Afghanistan and California and covers 40
years with a very surprising ending when the past comes back to haunt Amir.
Recent Afghan history makes this a timely read. |
