An Interview with Faye Gibbons

Tell us about your background.

I came from the mountains of north Georgia and grew up in poverty.  However, after I grew up I realized that, with all the disadvantages my siblings and I had, we had a life with texture.  We had no television until I was in high school (and that was before we owned a washing machine or a refrigerator!), and we only had radio every now and then, so we had time for real experiences.  We told stories, made up games and learned to be creative.

Which of your books was the most fun to write?

I don't have a favorite book, but I suppose I had the most fun writing Hook Moon Night, which is a collection of the kind of scary stories told in my family when I was a kid.

What are you currently working on?

I just finished my first young adult novel and have sent it off to my agent.  Only time will tell if this will become a published book.  I hope so because it deals with the fundamentalist religion I grew up with--and the powerless role of women back in earlier times.
