The Greatest Show on Earth!

By April Moon Emmet O’Neal Library

Step right up to the greatest show on earth! Be amazed by death-defying feats and dazzled by beautiful costumes! Thrill to the sight of elephants from the Orient and lions from the depths of Africa. Tantalize your taste buds with fresh, hot popcorn and sweet, wispy cotton candy. Laugh yourself silly as colorful clowns entertain with slapstick precision!

Is the circus coming to town, you ask? No! It’s Summer Reading at your public library and everyone is guaranteed three rings of fun when the FUNtastic Reading Circus comes to town!

Be amazed at the brave storyteller who enters a room full of excited three-year olds, armed only with a story and some puppets! Thrill to the circus decorations of lions, tigers, elephants and more; your local librarian will be your ringmaster for a summer of circus entertainment. Thanks to local businesses everyone can munch on delicious treats. Laugh yourself silly as the library staff race and dodge colorful book carts throughout your library, trying desperately to re-shelve the books you checkout and read this summer!

In addition to this everyday fun, enjoy the many professional clowns, magicians, jugglers and animal acts that your libraries have invited to come and make your summer an exciting one to remember. The FUNtastic Reading Circus begins with kick-off activities in late May and continues for most libraries through June and July. Contact your local library or check the calendar in this edition of the Reader for program times and details near you.

You don’t have to stick your head into the mouth of a lion to have an exciting circus experience this summer! Just parade on down to your local library and have a FUNtastic time!
