These programs are held at 12:00 p.m. in the 3rd floor Arrington Auditorium of the Linn-Henley Building.  The library provides beverages. For additional information call (205) 226-3604

August 3 - USWorks Business Online

Rolanda Warren, with the Center for Workforce Development, will provide information about community agencies that offer direct services for businesses, job seekers, and economic developers. This state-of-the-art web application provides local labor market information, job posting, posting of job fairs and upcoming events, and an online Community Resource Guide at no cost to you!

August 10 - Living Wills

What is a living will and do I really need one? Lynn Campisi, a local attorney and member of the Birmingham Bar Association, will help us understand what a living will is and does for ourselves and our families.

August 17 - Rickwood: America's Oldest Ballpark

Babe Ruth played there, and so did Willie Mays, Piper Davis, and Ty Cobb. For lovers of baseball, stadiums are more than just fields where a game is played. Baseball stadiums are temples, museums and second homes. As historic stadiums around the country were lost to the wrecking ball, the Friends of Rickwood helped save and breathe new life into Birmingham's Rickwood Field. Join us as David Brewer explores the history and romance of America's oldest baseball park.

August 24 - So You've Got a Great Idea-What's Next?

Many people have ideas for ways to solve problems that they encounter in daily living. What is involved in converting an idea into a product? Can I make money from the idea? What's it going to cost me to develop the idea? What resources are available to me? This program will answer all these questions and many more.

August 31- Benching: The Art of Watching Trains

Join us for a viewing of the winner of the Best Short Documentary at the 2004 Birmingham Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival. Meet Bo Hughins and Neil Kirkpartick, the filmmakers, and hear their experience creating this winning movie.

September 14 - Einstein in the Classroom

Future scientists from the Alabama School of Fine Arts will be presenting a program on Albert Einstein, his theories and what these discoveries mean in our daily life. Who knows, maybe these students will even build a time machine for us!

September 21 and 28 - Einstein by McWane

The McWane Center will present two programs about its Einstein Exhibit opening September 3. Join us for two very informative programs on the man and his work.

October 5 - E=mc2

Have you ever understood what it really meant? Join us as we preview the new Nova series that will highlight the World’s Most Famous Equation.

October 12 - Alabama School of Fine Arts Chamber Players

Hear the exquisite sounds of these talented instrumentalists as they bring us musical fare from the late Renaissance through the twentieth century.

October 19 - Ecology Year Round

Earth Day is not the only time of the year to think about ecology and issues that involve our lives and the world around us. Join us for a look at our world.

October 26 - Bury Me on a High Promontory: Oak Hill Cemetery and the History of the Birmingham

Charles Linn, one of Birmingham's founders, famously said,"Bury me on the high promontory overlooking the city of Birmingham." Now, anyone strolling across the promontory that became Linn's final resting place, Oak Hill Cemetery, will find not only the graves of the city's founders, of generals and political leaders, but also forgotten paupers, the victims of the great cholera epidemic, and Birmingham's most famous madam. Join us as Stuart Oates, director of Oak Hill Cemetery, explores the history of Birmingham's oldest burial ground.
