One of the most recognizable
voices in popular music, Richie Havens has recorded more than 20 albums
during his 30-year career. As the opening act at Woodstock, he held crowds
spellbound, concluding with his now classic “Freedom.” In addition to
performing at President Clinton’s inauguration, he also presented a solo
command performance for the Dalai Lama.

live broadcast of The Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade from the Hotel
Astor. Complete with a harried producer, a drunken lead singer and a singing
delivery boy, the show incorporates classics such as “Strike up the Band”
and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” capturing the spirit of that bygone era.
