The Three Pigs by David Wiesner. The three pigs escape the wolf
by going into another world where they meet the cat and the fiddle, the cow
that jumped over the moon, and a dragon. Winner of the 2002 Caldecott Award.
The Land by Mildred D. Taylor. After the Civil War, Paul, the son
of a white father and a black mother, finds himself caught between the two
worlds of colored and white folks as he pursues his dream of owning land of
his own. Winner of the 2002 Coretta Scott King Author Award.
Goin’ Someplace Special by Patricia McKissack. In segregated
1950s Nashville, a young African-American girl braves a series of
indignities and obstacles to get to one of the few integrated places in
town, the public library. Winner of the 2002 Coretta Scott King Illustrator
Award.
A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park. Tree-ear, a thirteen-year-old
orphan in medieval Korea, lives under a bridge in a potter’s village, and
longs to learn how to throw the delicate celadon ceramics himself. Winner of
the 2002 Newbery Award. |
