By Taneisha K. Young, North Avondale, BPL

JINKIES! Mysterious things are happening at your local library this summer. From creepy scavenger hunts to hauntingly exciting books, the libraries of Jefferson County invite you to find out "Whodunit," by participating in the 2002 Summer of Mystery Library Program. If you are in middle school or high school, you are invited to participate in several young adult and teen programs being offered at various libraries. Become a super sleuth, as the North Avondale Library invites you to play a game of celebrity Guess Who? Have a blast as teens discuss books and short stories when Homewood Library hosts its first weekly Young Adult Summer Reading Club. If you have a flare for writing mysterious poems or compellingly mystifying short stories, enter the writing contest being offered at the Hoover Library and you might win a gift certificate from Barnes & Noble. Learn to play mysterious sign language games with storyteller Carolyn Tucker and solve mysteries hands down at the North Birmingham Library. Be dazzled and held in suspense by African dancers as they perform and share the history of African dance at the Five Points West Library. The BPL Central Library invites you to join their summer student volunteer program. If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding adventure, visit the BPL Youth Department and find out what baffling tasks await you. Here’s your chance to "come on and get involved until the mystery is solved!" Visit your local library this summer and register for the 2002 Summer of Mystery Library Program. Soon you too will find out "Whodunit," and discover that strange and unsolved mysteries lie ahead.
