These programs are held at 12:00 noon in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Linn-Henley Building.  The library provides beverages.

AN ARTFUL CELEBRATION
November 7
Two to Tango
Experience the passion of the Tango performed by the "Dancing Doctors", Dr. Roswell Pfister and Dr. Sarah Alvarez. The doctors have performed this dance with "One heart and four legs" throughout Birmingham and the Southeast, and also in Europe and Cuba.

Discover the Alys Stephens Center
They say art imitates life, we say art inspires life! Join us for an overview of the ASC's exciting new season and a discussion of the role a performing arts center plays in the community. Through special arrangement with the ASC, anyone presenting a valid library card for the Jefferson County Public Library system will receive a 10% discount off tickets to David Sedaris' hilarious show on November 18.

Ukrainian and Spanish Folk Dance
Eye-catching, colorful costumes enhance the rich pageantry behind Ukrainian and Spanish folk dances. The two cultures come together in this performance by instructors of the Barlow Academy of Dance. Natasha Russo and Wanda Hackett are both active in the Birmingham dance community.

European Masterpieces
The Birmingham Museum of Art will show a superb exhibition from February – April 2002 featuring the finest old master and modern European paintings from a world-renowned collection in the National Gallery of Victoria, Australia. Dr. David Moos, Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum, will speak about the overall exhibition and discuss several keynote works in depth.

A Christmas Memory
Get into the holiday spirit as Birmingham storyteller and actress Dolores Hydock presents "A Christmas Memory". Truman Capote’s poignant reminiscence of his boyhood in rural Alabama is brought to vivid life in this performance.

Wednesday, January 9
Richard Crew, Vice President and Senior Financial Consultant at Merrill Lynch, will discuss strategies for investing in turbulent times.

Wednesday, January 16
Eugenia Evans, Director of Public Information & Education for the Birmingham branch of the Arthritis Foundation, will present a discussion on taking control of arthritis pain.

Wednesday, January 23
Attorney Jim Noles, Author of Images of America: Alabama Power Company, will discuss his new book and Alabama Power’s role in the industrial history of the State of Alabama.

Wednesday, January 30
A Hand-in-Paw trainer will discuss animal assisted therapy and their organization’s role in educating pet owners in the use of animals to comfort the sick and elderly. One of Hand-in-Paw’s specially trained pets will also join us for this exciting program.
