These programs are held at 12:00 noon in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Linn-Henley Building.  The library provides beverages.

August Programs
presented by the Social Sciences Department Guest speakers from local museums will talk about their museum: it’s history, collections and services and programs.

September Programs
presented by the Business, Science & Technology Department

SEPTEMBER 5 – Dr. Vernon Pegram, Professor of Pulmonary & Critical Care and Co-Director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, will discuss sleep and wake disorders. Dr. Pegram will examine current trends in the treatment of sleep disorders.
SEPTEMBER 12 – David Ramp, Business Counselor, UAB Small Business Development Center, will present an overview of starting and operating a small business. Mr. Ramp will also discuss the sources and services provided by the UAB Small Business Development Center.
SEPTEMBER 19 Please join us to hear Sue Adams from the Jefferson County Master Gardener Association talk about hummingbirds. Ms. Adams will show a video highlighting the habits of the quick and beautiful birds, and discuss how to entice them into your backyard.
SEPTEMBER 26 Trev Brown, Assistant Vice President, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta — Birmingham Branch, will discuss Federal Reserve branch operations with special attention devoted to the Birmingham Branch.

October Programs 
presented by the Southern History and Government Documents Departments 

OCTOBER 3 – Cyber Roots with Jim Pate: Ancestor Searching on the Internet Jim Pate, Reference Librarian in the Southern History Department, will present a program on genealogical research using the Internet. He will demonstrate some sites and talk about the type of information that can be found on them.
OCTOBER 10 – Writing Grant Proposals Learn how to write grant proposals that succeed. A speaker from the Nonprofit Resource Center will give tips, helpful information, and "how-to" advice. 
OCTOBER 17 – Starting Your Own Business So, how DO you start up your own business? A representative from the Small Business Administration will share information on financing, legal matters, and other concerns.
OCTOBER 24 – Herbal Medicine * Join us for a discussion by Dr. James A. Duke, botanist and former researcher for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He is the author of several works on herbal medicine such as The Green Pharmacy. *This program is not confirmed.
