 Take a Literary Tour of the South with Ella Robinson

Ella Robinson, Alabama author of A Guide to Literary Sites of the South, will present a slide program that will take you on a journey to literary sites of the South. Her book gives information about literary festivals and biographies of 113 authors.

 Spanning the Racial Divide: Horace King, Bridge Builder

Come hear Alabama author Richard Bailey as he recounts the remarkable life and career of Horace King, a Black bridge builder and legislator. An Alabama author Richard Bailey has written Neither Carpetbaggers Nor Scalawags: Black Officeholders during the Reconstruction of Alabama.

Cyber Roots with Jim Pate or Ancestor Searching on the Internet

Jim Pate, Reference Librarian in the Southern History Department, will present a program on genealogical research using the Internet. He will demonstrate some sites and talk about various types of information that can be found.

Telephone and Mail Fraud: How to Avoid Being Scammed

Mr. Paul Daymond, FBI Community Outreach Coordinator, will discuss how to avoid becoming a victim of telephone and mail fraud plus provide many other useful survival tips for consumers.

To Inspire Creativity in the Century Ahead

April Williams, Public Relations Specialist with the U.S. Postal Service, will host a dedication ceremony for the issuance of the postage stamp commemorating the Library of Congress’s bicentennial.

The Nonprofit Sector in Alabama: Issues and Trends

Sandy Killion of the Nonprofit Resource Center of Alabama will discuss current challenges facing nonprofit organizations and will provide information about the programs and services offered by the Center to help meet those challenges.

Politics, Society and the KKK

Dr. Glenn Feldman, Assistant Professor at UAB’s Center for Labor Education and Research, will discuss the history of the Ku Klux Klan in 20th century Alabama and sign copies of his book Politics, Society and the Klan in Alabama, 1915-1949.

June 21

Brent Davis, producer for the public television series "The Alabama Experience," will show his recently completed episode on Birmingham’s Linn-Henley Research Library and talk about the making of the program.

June 28
"Where the Wild Animals is Plentiful"

Elisa Baldwin, University of South Alabama archivist, will discuss and sign copies of her new book Where the Wild Animals is Plentiful: Diary of an Alabama Fur Trader’s Daughter, 1912-1914.

These programs are held at 12:00 noon in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Linn-Henley Building.  The library provides beverages.

No reservations are needed.  Programs are free and open to the public.  For additional information call 226-3604
